ACC levy calculator

Choose your classification unit and enter your income. The figures update as you type, at ACC’s official rates.

How the calculator works

Each levy is liable income × rate ÷ 100, rounded to the cent, and GST at 15% is added to the total. For the self-employed this matches ACC’s own CoverPlus calculator to the cent. The one difference we found is when an amount lands exactly on half a cent: ACC’s calculator rounds down and this one rounds up — at most 1 cent a line.

The Work levy rate comes from ACC’s levy guidebook for the year you choose. The Earners’ and Working Safer levies are flat rates set for each year.

Minimum and maximum income

In 2026/27 nothing above $156,641 is levied. If you’re self-employed and full-time — on average more than 30 hours a week over the tax year — and your income is under $50,501, you’re levied on $50,501, less any wages you earned as an employee that year. Part-time, you’re levied on what you actually earned.

For employers the maximum applies to each employee separately, so enter your payroll with anything over $156,641 per person already left out. ACC’s invoice shows that part as “Payroll paid over the ACC max”.

Is the code right?

The Work levy is usually the biggest line, and its rate depends entirely on the classification unit. If the code on your invoice no longer matches what you do, the wrong rate is charged every year.
